Spring Update

The past three months have been a whirlwind of activity here at Emmaus Glasgow, brimming with community engagement, creative projects, and wonderful collaborations.

Notable Donations:

We were absolutely thrilled to receive the very first Social Impact Award from the Matthew Radley Executive Consultancy. The award, part of the annual MRA Social Impact Fund, comes with a £10,000 grant and four days of coaching from the amazing team at MRA. It’s all aimed at helping out a UK-based project, individual, group, or charity like us, to grow and make a real difference locally.

The nomination came from Sarah Atta, one of the firm's DEI professional coaches in 2023. This award will be a huge boost for us as we continue our mission of supporting those facing homelessness in Glasgow.

Richard Allwood, our CEO, said: “We’re all about training, experience, and giving back to our community. The challenges of the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) and rising living costs have hit us hard. But giving back is in our DNA. Our residents, our volunteers, our staff – we all pitch in to help others. Whether it's distributing free furniture to those in need, running food banks for local schools, or serving up warm meals at our soup kitchens, we’re always there. This award will help us get back on the road and keep helping those in need in our city.”

Community Action:

February 1st was a special day for us with the launch of "The Uprising of Kindness". We believe in the power of small acts of kindness to change the world, and we're asking everyone to #BeMoreKind to the homeless and those in need. We're pledging to do the same, not just for this year but for the long haul.

We're also celebrating the ripple effect of kindness. Two of our companions took time out to spruce up the garden of a local elderly resident. It’s these little acts that make our community special.

Community Outreach and Support:

Throughout March, our committed team of staff and volunteers continued our twice weekly soup kitchens, offering warm meals and companionship to those in need within our community. These efforts underscore our unwavering commitment to supporting individuals facing homelessness and food insecurity in Glasgow.

Crafting Connections with St. Michael's Primary School:

One of the highlights of March was delivering a handcrafted buddy bench to St. Michael's Primary School. Mick, one of our talented companions, put his woodworking skills to use and created this beautiful bench from reclaimed wood. It’s a symbol of friendship and inclusivity for the school's pupils. Mick, almost cracked a smile in the photo!

Strategic Planning and Team Building:

We were thrilled to host colleagues from 19 other Emmaus communities and staff from Emmaus UK for two days of planning, strategy, and team building. This collaborative gathering provided valuable opportunities to share insights, learn from one another, and strengthen our collective impact in supporting those experiencing homelessness. Exploring the vibrant city of Glasgow together, from early morning runs around Glasgow Green (at 7am!) to discovering hidden gems in the West End.
